Shops to Sell Cooking Oil at Reduced Rates Until Month’s End

Introduction

In a move to alleviate the rising cost of essentials during the festive season, Andhra Pradesh’s government has announced reduced prices for cooking oil. From 11 October until the end of the month, palm olein and sunflower oil will be sold at discounted rates in all shops across the state. This initiative, led by the Minister for Civil Supplies, Food, and Consumer Affairs, Nadendla Manohar, aims to provide some financial relief to consumers amid high edible oil prices.

Reduced Prices on Cooking Oil

As per the Minister's directive, palm olein will be sold at Rs 110 per litre, and sunflower oil at Rs 124 per litre. Consumers can purchase three-litre packs of palm olein and one-litre packs of sunflower oil per ration card at these reduced prices. The government’s move comes as a response to the increasing prices of edible oils, which have risen by Rs 20 per litre due to higher import duties imposed by the central government. The state has issued warnings to traders, advising them to strictly adhere to these government-fixed prices and avoid selling oil at higher rates. This initiative is intended to reduce the financial strain on consumers during the festival season.

Tomato and Vegetable Prices Also See Adjustments

In addition to cooking oil, the government is also working to control the skyrocketing prices of vegetables. Tomatoes, which are being sold at Rs 80 to Rs 100 per kg in the open market, are now available at a subsidized rate of Rs 50 per kg in government-run bazaars. The prices of other vegetables, including capsicum, bitter gourd, and beans, have also seen a significant rise, with some crossing the Rs 100 mark.

Conclusion

With rising food costs affecting households across the state, the Andhra Pradesh government’s initiative to sell essential cooking oils and vegetables at reduced rates is a timely relief. Consumers can enjoy these discounted prices until the end of the month, ensuring that festive celebrations are a little lighter on the wallet.
